Many of us use the term “spirit” and “soul” interchangeably, but as a Muslim, my understanding is that the human spirit ( ruh ) is that spark of the Divine Spirit that is in us, and links us with our Creator. The soul ( nafs ), however, is that unique created entity that identifies us as individuals, different from any other (even between identical twins, and in future, clones); has inborn needs, urges and desires (often it is to be better and have more of everything than others). Australia is enjoying its 15th consecutive year of economic growth, growth that has been well above the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) world average. First, from mid-October, most people who apply for permanent or selected temporary visas to Australia will be required to sign a “values statement,” which confirms their commitment to abide by Australian law and to respect the Australian way of life.
